4th of July Holiday Closures and Garbage Plans

City Hall and  Public Works Office will be closed Monday, July 5th in observance of Independence Day.

The Transfer Station will be closed Saturday, July 3rd and Monday July 5th.

Monday garbage will be picked up on Tuesday. Tuesday route will be picked up on Wednesday.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday routes will follow the regular pick up schedule.

Hydrant Flushing

The Valley City Public Works Department will be flushing hydrants in the city beginning May 11th 2021, for approximately two weeks to a month.  Water pressure may vary and residents may notice discolored water conditions during this time; however, the water will remain safe to drink.  To avoid any inconvenience, residents should check their water before doing laundry, and store water for drinking and cooking.

Attention Valley City Residents

City Cleanup

May 24TH through May 28th

Valley City will conduct its annual residential waste cleanup the week of May 24TH through May 28TH.  The free pickup and disposal for residential waste only.

Valley City residents are encouraged to clean up, clean off, and clean out their properties.  On your regular garbage pickup day, put all your garbage, including the extra, out in your regular pick up spot by 7:00 AM, and Valley City Public Works will pick it up.  There is no limit on the number of bags, cans, boxes, etc., and no extra charge.  We will pick up general household garbage, couches, chairs, furniture, branches and wood DO NOT BAG OR BOX BRANCHES.  Paints and liquids can be disposed of in a dry, hardened form.  Cat litter, floor dry or sawdust can be used to absorb the liquid.  Empty cans can be left out with garbage. LEFTOVER PAINT WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THE LANDFILL DURING CLEAN UP WEEK BUT MUST BE DRIED.

Separate items into piles

  • branches and tree (will be picked up the week after cleanup week)
  • household garbage
  • bricks, shingles, cement, wood products, rocks, large carpet rolls

Residents may take their appliances to Valley Recycling Center.

The following items WILL NOT be picked up:

Leaves and grass need to be taken to the collection site at the landfill at no charge.

  • Tires must be taken to the transfer station. The disposal fee cannot be charged, cash only.
  • Batteries may be taken to Valley Recycling Center.
  • Scrap metal may be taken to Valley Recycling Salvage Yard at 11481 35th ST SE  (north of Valley City landfill)

Help the garbage crews by putting the garbage into boxes, bags or cans not to exceed 32 gallons or 50 lbs.

Note:  Free disposal of grass, leaves, branches, trees, used motor oil and metal can be disposed of at the Transfer Station all year long. Metal is free for city residents not businesses.

Water outage

The Street department will be working on a water leak this morning in the NW part of town on 8th Ave. The work will start around 9:30 and some residents will be out of water.  Everyone should be up and running by the end of the day.

March 9th,2020 A Burn Ban has been put in place

Barnes County is under abnormally dry conditions; and whereas, the impact of fires could threaten the health, well-being, and safety of citizens in Barnes County

This includes the burning of leaves, grass clippings, garbage/pits, construction debris, fallen trees, crop residue or hay land, sloughs, fire pits and campfires/bonfires. Residents are allowed to use their gas grills so long as the monitor them and ensure they are completely extinguished when done using them.

ANY INDIVIDUAL WHO WILLFULLY VIOLATES THIS BURN BAN IS GUILTY OF A CLASS b MISDEMEANOR, WHICH CARRIES A PENALTY OF UP TO 30 DAYS IN JAIL AND A $1,500.00 FINE PER INCIDENT, AS WELL AS THE COST FOR FIRE SUPPRESSION.

Snow Removal

Street department will start moving snow this morning on emergency routes and hills then branch off into residential areas starting in the Northeast section of town and work clockwise.  Work will resume at midnight downtown and finishing the residential areas when downtown is completed.
