Preventing Mosquitoes In & Around the Home

Protect your home against mosquitoes

Protect your home against mosquitoes

  1. Remove standing water where mosquitoes could lay eggs:
    • Eliminate unnecessary water holding containers, especially tires, large cans and bottles.
    • Keep clean water in children's wading pools & drain when not in use.
    • Keep ditches and streams adjoining your property free of grass clippings, garbage, and other debris, which obstruct the natural flow of water.
    • Keep weeds & grass cut short during the summer months. Report vacant lots that are not maintained properly to city officials.
    • Make sure stored boats are covered or water drained out of them completely. Store small boats upside down.
    • Change water in birdbaths, fountains and troughs weekly.
    • Clean roof gutters.
  2. Control mosquitoes inside your home
    • Maintain proper screening for windows and doors.
    • An indoor fogger or spray can be used to kill mosquitos. Mosquitos rest in dark, humid places. Always follow the precautions and instructions on the label.
  3. Protect yourself and others
    • Wear light colored, long pants and long-sleeved shirts when outside.
    • Stay indoors during the evening and early morning hours when mosquitoes are most active.

Please use caution on city streets

Both City standing trucks are down and the City will borrow a sanding truck from the county. Please use caution when traveling on city streets, it is better to stay where you are and not travel today.

City of Valley City Recognized for Safe Drinking Water Act Compliance

Public water systems are required by the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) to take many actions to provide safe drinking water.

The SDWA was passed by Congress in 1974 to protect public health by regulating the nation’s public drinking (potable) water supplies. Over the years, there have been a number of changes to the Safe Drinking Water Act. These changes have made it more challenging to maintain compliance. The North Dakota Department of Health issues a Safe Drinking Water Act Certificate of Achievement as one way to recognize the public water systems that satisfied all applicable requirements during the previous calendar year.

In 2018, the City of Valley City complied with all applicable Safe Drinking Water Act requirements. To recognize this accomplishment, the North Dakota Department of Health issued the City of Valley City a Safe Drinking Water Act Certificate of Achievement.

The City of Valley City commends its water system staff, Wade Hesch and Sherry Keys, for a job well done from which its consumers benefited.

Public Service Announcement: Frozen Pipes

With the long stretch of cold weather, Valley City Public Works is advising…

If you have had your water pipes freeze up in the past, please be sure to let your water service trickle. If you check the temperature of your water, it should not be below 35 degrees. If it is, let the water trick and notify the Public Works office at (701) 845-0380 and we can adjust the bill.
